Yesterday, our U18 girls became County Champions having played an outstanding level of hockey, whilst demonstrating great teamwork and unrivalled commitment and determination. Mrs Downer and I are incredibly proud of all the girls and how well they played, defeating some very strong opposition.

In the pool games the girls beat Pangbourne College 2-1, Downe House 3-0, Newlands 2-0 and drew 1-1 with St Mary's Ascot. They finished top of the group and faced Bradfield College in the semi final where they secured an early lead and managed to hold on with a fantastic save from Katie Shepherd as Bradfield were awarded a penalty stroke in the final minutes of the game. This meant The Abbey faced Wellington in the final. Our girls completely outplayed a very physical Wellington side and were unlucky not to win in normal time. It went down to penalty strokes but with the first two Wellington girls sending their balls wide of the post and another great save from Katie in goal, The Abbey came out victorious! Our girls will now be representing Berkshire at Regionals on the 8th November.
